War Service

Roy enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 14 Sep 1943 and was sent to the 35th Australian Infantry Training Battalion at Guildford. On 7 Feb 1944 he was charged with being AWOL from 10:15pm on 6 Feb 1944 until 6:40am on 7 Feb 1944. He forfeited a days pay and was awarded 3 days Confined to Barracks. On 2 Jun 1944 he was transferred to the 23rd Australian Infantry Training Battalion, and then on 28 Jul 1944 to the Australian Reinforcement Training Battalion (Jungle Warfare). On 21 Aug 1944 Roy was evacuated to the 22nd Australian Camp Hospital before returning to his unit on 27 Aug 1944. On 25 Sep 1944 he was transferred to the 42nd Australian Infantry Battalion (Capricornia Regiment).


Along with his new unit, Roy embarked on SS Santa Monica in Brisbane on 1 Dec 1944, disembarking at Bougainville on 15 Dec 1944. On 22 Apr 1945 he was reclassified medically to 'B1' unsuited to hot, humid climate, suitable only for 'B' class posting. He was transferred to the New Guinea General Details Depot on 3 May 1945 for re-allocation. On 11 May 1945 he emplaned in Bougainville for Townsville, arriving there the same day and was transferred to Queensland Line of Communication Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for re-posting. On 7 Jul 1945 he was posted to the 11th Australian Base Workshop until 1 Feb 1946 whenhe was transferred to the South Queensland Area Worshops. On 16 Sep 1946 Roy was posted to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge which took place on 10 Oct 1946.

Post War

Married Judith Alice after 1954, before 1963 Electoral Roll entries: 1954 at 86 Anzac Terrace, Bassendean, carpenter; 1963 - 1980 at 62 Corbel street, Shelley a WAGR employee.
