War Service
On 22 Mar 1942 William enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps in Armadale and was taken on strength by the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 1 Jul 1942 he was appointed Lance Corporal, and on 23 Sep 1942 he was promoted Corporal. With the rest of his unit he was placed in reserve on 1 May 1945. (William had initially been called up on 6 Mar 1941, but was released as he was in a protected occupation.)
