Pre War

On 20 June 1939 Carl was engaged to Eleanor Mercy Sexty in Armadale. At the time he was President of the Armadale branch of the Poultry Farmers Association who were agitating for improved egg marketing. He was also secretary of the German Club.

War Service

Carl originally enlisted in the Citizens Military Forces 25th Light Horse (Machine Gun) Regiment at Guildford on 14 May 1939. Several Regimental numbers are on his records in addition to the final one - 462375, and W2153. Carl was called in for Guard duties from 29 Aug until 12 Sep 1939, and as a result on 16 Sep 1939 he was promoted Corporal in the 25th LH (MG) Regiment. On 14 Nov 1939 he commenced 'War Service', returning to civilian life on 13 Dec 1939.


On 12 Jan 1940 he again went into camp, where he impressed his superiors as on 22 Jan 1940 he was appointed Lance Sergeant, and four days later he was promoted to Sergeant with the Regimental Police of the 25th LH (MG) Regiment. He was released back to civilian life on 10 Apr 1940, until 23 Sep 1940 when he again entered camp until 22 Dec 1940.


Carl's next camp was from 2 Jun 1941 until 30 Aug 1941, and the next day, 31 Aug 1941 he was called up for full time duty. On 30 Aug 1941 Carl was transferred to the Regimental Reserve and granted Leave Without Pay from 1 Sep until 30 Sep 1941. On 15 Oct 1941, with Poultry Farming deemed to be an "Essential Service" he was released from the Army, having served a total of 46 days effective service.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1972, Fremantle (Forrest) road, Armadale, Poultry farmer; 1977 - 1980 at 2 Bedfordale Hill road, Armadale, retired.

Notes

Original family name was Rosenberg. He had served in the German Army prior to emigration as a LCpl Machine Gunner. His records don't indicate if this was during WW1 or in the Army of post WW1 Germany.
