War Service
Percy was called up for full time duty in the CMF with Army Number W54897 on 20 Jul 1942, and was allocated to the 20th Defence and Employment Platoon. On 28 Sep 1942 he enlisted in the 2nd AIF where on 15 Jan 1943 he was a qualified Trade Group II Cook. On 28 Aug 1943 he was transferred tothe Australian Army Catering Corp. On 20 Sep 1943 Percy was charged with "Conduct to the Prejudice of Good Order and Military Discipline - in that he failed to keep his rifle in firing condition. He was awarded 7 days Confined to Barracks. From 2 - 24 Jan 1944 Percy was treated by the 110th Australian Base Hospital.
On 14 Jul 1944 Percy entrained in Perth for NSW, and on 26 Aug 1944 he was sent to Canungra's Australian Reinforcement Training Battalion (Jungle Warfare) although he didn't arrive until 4 Sep 1944. On 4 Dec 1944 Percy was posted to the 5th Australian Ordnance Port Detachment. On 10 May 1945 Percy and his unit boarded USAT Sea Barb in Brisbane for Morotai, disembarking there on 26 May 1945. Here the unit's four detachments staged for the landings at Tarakan (May) Labuan (June), and Balikpapan (July). The headquarters element remained on Morotai from May until August when it boarded SS Joseph Carrigan for Labuan in British North Borneo. This timing matches Percy's records and as he was a cook it appears that he moved with the HQ element. On 3 Nov 1945 Percy embarked at Labuan on HM LST 9 for Australia. He arrived on 3 Dec 1945 at Karrakatta's Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot where he was discharged on 5 Dec 1945.
