Pre War
Peter married Joyce Elizabeth Bailey in 1940. Following his death she remarried to George Millman.
War Service
On 4 Sep 1939 he entered HMAS Cerberus V (Naval Reserve Fremantle) to begin training, and on 19 Mar 1940 he was posted as an Ordinary Seaman to HMAS Korowa an auxiliary minesweeper operating out of Fremantle. Peter remained with the Korowa until 9 Apr 1940, before returning to HMAS Cerberus V as an Able Seaman. On 23 Jul 1940 he was transferred to the London Depot and then to the shore establishment HMS Victory and then to the ship HMS Havelock based at HMS Victory II.
On 30 Nov 1940 he was posted to HMAS Sydney, then based in the Mediterranean, and served on it in those and Australian waters until its destruction on 19 Nov 1941 by the German raider Kormoran.
