Early Life

Sophie Haynes (nee Betts) was born in Toodyay in 1857. Her father was Charles Bates aka Betts (1823-1904) and and her mother was Eliza Stephens Betts (1821-1900)

Marriage

Sophie married twice, first to Arthur Albert Cooke(or Crooke) (1866-1942) in 1884 at Footscray on 12 November 1884 and divorced on 25 November 1901. Her second marriage to Ernest Leslie Haynes (1876-1930) in 1902 was in Victoria. No children were recorded.

Death

Sophie's died at the age of 52 years in North Perth. Her headstone records she died on 7 August 1909. However, a Trove Report: West Australian 5 August 1909, reports the funeral being held yesterday, ie. 4 August 1909.
