Enlisted at Karrakatta on 20 Jul 1943 and allocated to General Reinforcments for training. On 2 Aug 1943 he was transferred to the [[35th Australian Infantry Training Battalion]] at Guildford. On 5 Jan 1944 Brian was charged with having been AWOL from midnight 3 Jan 1944 until 10:00pm on 4 Jan 1944, He was fined 10/- and forfeited a days pay in addition to being awarded seven days Confined to Barracks. On 2 Jun 1944 he was transferred to NSW where he was taken on strength by the [[23rd Australian Infantry Training Battalion]]. On28 Jul 1944 he was transferred to Canungra for tropical training. Following his training he was posted on 27 Sep 1944 to the [[42nd Australian Infantry Battalion (Capricornia Regiment)]] and from 26 Oct 1944 he was granted Proficiency Pay.

On 12 Feb 1945 he was admitted to the [[7th Australian Field Ambulance]] with Chi Belat Otitis Media, and the next day they transferred him to [[2/1st Australian General Hospital]] who on 19 Feb 1945 placed him on a plane for Lae and entered the [[2/7th Australian General Hospital]]. On 25 Feb 1945 he was placed on a Flying Boat for [[102nd Austalian General Hospital]], and on 4 APr he was released to be placed on an Ambulance Train for [[115th AUstralian General Hospital]] at Heidelberg in Victoria. On 6 Apr 1945 he was evacuated to Perth's [[110th Australian base Hospital]] On 5 Jun 1945 he was assessed and found to be 'D' unsuited to dusty conditions. Enlisted at Karrakatta on 20 Jul 1943 and allocated to General Reinforcments for training. On 2 Aug 1943 he was transferred to the 35th Australian Infantry Training Battalion at Guildford.
