War Service
Alan enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 Recruiting Centre Perth on 19 Feb 1944 and was initially mustered as a Trainee Technician. On 7 Apr 1944, having completed the Recruit Drill Course, he was posted to No. 5 School of Technical Training in Mounts Bay road, Perth. On 29 Jul 1944 his posting changed to No. 4 Personnel Depot as he had failed the Technician Trade Test.
On 29 Jul 1944 he was posted to No. 17 Repair & Salvage Unit where two days later on 31 Jul 1944 he re-mustered as a General Hand, and again on 3 Oct 1944, this time as a Clerk/Stores Assistant. Alan was hospitalised from 20 - 31 October in 1944. On 18 Dec 1944 he was sent back to the No. 4 Personnel Depot before being posted to The No. 2 Reserve Personnel Pool.
