Brief History

A part of Australia's radar defence system, No. 40 Zone filter Centre was formed at No. 5 Embarkation Depot in Perth on 1 September 1942. On 10 Jan 1944, a fire broke out west of the aerodrome, and RAAF personnel were used to control it. On 17 February 1943, a member of the unit was accidentally killed during a practice shoot at Cable Beach.
