On 28 Feb 1943 he was transferred to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion, and was discharged on 15 Nov 1943.
During 1943 John married Annie Amelia Price (1920 - 1998) locally. Annie died on 5 Jul 1997 in Armadale.
