Pre War

Electoral Roll entries: 1918 at Kelmscott, farm hand; 1925 at Armadale, labourer; 1931 - 1943 at Clarke road, Armadale, labourer.

During 1922 Ernest married Amelia Florence Neilson. Amelia died on 30 Jun 2014 in Kelmscott.

War Service

Enlisted at Swanbourne on 23 Jul 1941 where he was taken on strength by the 5th Australian Garrison Battalion. On 13 May 1942 Ernest was transferred to the 29th Australian Garrison Battalion. Classed as proficient and therefore entitled to proficiency pay on 1 Jul 1943, on 5 Apr 1944 he was transferred to 5th Australian Base Workshop. Six days later on 12 Apr 1944 he was released to the 110th Australian Base Hospital for an appointment.

Ernest was discharged at Claremont on 27 Jun 1944, he had been released early for essential service work (Armadale Road Board).
