War Service
On 31 Aug 1941 Stanley enlisted in the Militia and was posted to the 25th Australian Recconaisance Battalion and served as a Corporal before being discharged on 2 Oct 1942 in order to enlist in the RAAF on 13 Oct 1942 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruit Centre as a General Hand .

23 Sep 1943 Commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Branch, employed as a Pilot. 73 Squadron 17 Jan 1944 - 23 Jul 1944 Promoted Flying Officer 23 Mar 1944 2 Oct - 6 Dec 1944 No.270 course for 2nd Pilots. 20 Squadron 2 Feb - 14 Nov 1945 25 Sep 945 promoted Flight Lieutenant
