Pre War
John arrived in Australia on 15 Feb 1924 aboard the SS Moreton Bay which had left London on 15 Jan 1924. During 1939 John married Ellen M Pritchard (known as Annie??) although she is not with him on the 1943 Electoral Roll.

War Service
On 17 Sep 1941 John was called up for full time service in the CMF and when allocated to the 9th Australian Auxiliary Horse Transport Company, he was given a trade grouping of Driver Horse Transport T/G III. John was granted leave from 17- 20 October, and 20 - 22 November 1941. On 1 May 1943 John was charged with having disobeyed a lawful command on 39 Apr 1943. Found guilty he was fined 20/- ($2). On 23 Aug 1944 he was medically reclassified to "B2", and transferred on 20 Nov 1944 to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot.
John was discharged on 21 Nov 1944 (Essential Services) to rejoin the Western Australian Government Railways.
Post War
Annie died 10 Jan 1975 aged 81 in Doubleview.
