War Service
On 10 Dec 1941 Ray entered camp a week after enlisting, and was then called up for full time duty on 24 Dec 1941 with the 16th Australian Infantry Battalion (Cameron Highlanders Regiment). Ray was discharged from the Army on 16 Jan 1942 for 'Essential Services'.
Ray then enlisted in the RAAF on 8 Aug 1942.

Post War
Ray married Alma Cecilia Brooke (1923 - 2017) in 1947. They had 3 children.
