Brief History
In December 1940 this hospital, then known as the No. 1 Special Hospital, Eastern Command was formed at the Sydney Showgrounds to treat venereal disease in the Army. In January 1941 they moved to part of the Prince Henry Hospital at Little Bay. They operated prophylactic centers in Tamworth, Dubbo, Greta, Largs, Holdsworthy and Glenfield. The unit was renamed 120th Australian Special Hospital in February 1941.
By January 1943 they operated 400 beds and operated 26 prophylactic centers throughout NSW. They remained based at Little Bay until after the war. Six patients died of illness while in this unit's care.
