The unit was re-named as 22nd Australian Field Company in April 1943, moved to Guildford in July, and then to Karrakatta in December 1943. In April 1944 they moved to the RAE Training Centre at Kapooka in New South Wales, for rest and retraining. In July they split to form a reduced scale Field Company and the nucleus of the 2nd Australian Port Construction Company. Primarily they worked on local Kapooka projects until they moved to Duntroon in the ACT from December 1944 until May 1945.
