Brief History
In July 1942 the army began recruiting AWAS for the Corps of Signals. 2nd Australian Signals Training Battalion (AWAS) was formed at Ivanhoe in Victoria, and staffed from the disbanding of AIF (ME) School of Signals. Comprising two Companies, one for recruit training and one for technical training, it moved to Bonegilla in November 1943 to join Central Signals Training Centre and in January 1944 they absorbed the 1st Australian Signals Training Battalion (AWAS), and continued to train AWAS for signals work until the end of the war.
