Brief History

In August 1944 the 13th Infantry Brigade Group was re-organised in the Northern Territory for tropical service, with the 24th Company AASC disbanding to form '52nd Transport Platoon, 250th Supply Depot Platoon, and 251 Supply Depot Platoon. With two officers and 97 men, the 52nd Transport Platoon left for Jacquinot Bay, New Britain in November 1944. On arrival they established themselves at Wunung Plantation during December and they joined the 152nd Australian General Transport Company in January 1945.

When the 13th Australian Infantry Brigade took over the forward role, two sections of the platoon moved to the Tol Plantation in April 1945. The rest of the Platoon, less a detachment that remained at Wunung Plantation, moved to Tol Plantation in July. Following the surrender of the Japanese, the entire platoon moved to Rabaul in support of the 11th Australian Infantry Division.
