Brief History

Raised at Helena Vale in March 1942, the 5th Australian Motor Ambulance Convoy moved to Blackboy Hill from where they provided an Ambulance Service throughout the south west of Western Australia. Detachments rotated through Geraldton, Mullewa, Mingenew and Moora. In January 1943 the unit became an AASC unit, and in April 1943 it HQ element moved back to Helena Vale where in February 1944 they absorbed 65th Australian Ambulance Platoon MAC. With the decreased troop numbers in Western Australia, they were reduced to one platoon in May, and then left for Wallgrove in New South Wales in October 1944 where they were disbanded in March 1945.
