Brief History

Early recruiting of AWAS and VAD recruits in Western Australia appears to have involved 5th AWS Recruiting Depot which in November 1942 was at Swan Barracks Perth, but in November 1942 was, along with the 6th AWS Training Company had moved to the Claremont Teachers College. In February 1943 the Western Australian Line of Communication Area AWAS NCO School was authorised, to also be based at the Teachers College. By the time it was operational in April it had been renamed as the6th AWS NCO School. In October 1943 both units had moved to Guildford where 6th AWS Training Company absorbed the 5th AWS Outfitting Depot to form the 6th Training Company (AWS). In January 1944 it absorbed the NCO School. 5th AWS Recruiting Depot was disbanded in March 1944, and with few troops remaining in Western Australia, a training wing was established within the 31st AWAS Barrack at Karrakatta in January 1945 and the 6th Training Company (AWS) was closed.
