Alan enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 Recruiting Centre Perth on 19 Feb 1944 and was initially mustered as a Trainee Technician. On 7 Apr 1944 he was posted to No. 5 School of Technical Training in Mounts Bay road, Perth. On 29 Jul 1944 his posting changed to No. 4 Personnel Depot
Re-mustered on 31 Jul 1944 as a General Hand, and on 3 Oct 1944 as a Clerk/Stores Assistant.
6 Jan 1945 promoted to Leading Aircraftsman On 7 Jun 1945 Alan was remustered as an Equipment Assistant.
6 Feb 1946 promoted Acting Corporal. Discharged 13 May 1946
Post War
During 1948 Alan married Maud J Ridge.
