Pre War

War Service

Original enlistment in the CMF took place on 1 Sep 1942, and he was called up for full time service on 15 Sep 1942. On 1 Sep 1942 he was posted to the AAMC Training Depot at Northam on strength as a Medical Corps reinforcement. On 19 Mar 1943 Alan was posted to the 118th Australian General Hospital. On 13 Apr 1945 he enlisted in the 2nd AIF in New South Wales before embarking with his unit in Brisbane aboard SS Montoro on 24 Jul 1945. They disembarked in Wewak, New Guinea on 9 Aug 1945, and on 1 Sep 1945 embarked in Wewak on HMT Katoomba for Jacquinot Bay on the south coast of New Britain, disembarking there on 7 Sep 1945.


On 4 Feb 1946 Alan was promoted Corporal, but at his own request, four days later he reverted to Private. On 15 Jun 1946 Alan was posted to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot, and began his journey home by embarking on HMAS Canberra in Rabaul for Brisbane where he disembarked on 21 Jun 1946. Alan was discharged at Karrakatta on 2 AUg 1946.
