War Service

Albert was called up for Part time service on 6 Mar 1941, and when he was taken full time on 1 Aug 1941, he was a member of the 121st Reserve Motor Transport Company AASC, and remained so until 15 Aug 1942. On 13 Mar 1942 he was appointed Lance Bombardier, (implies that he was perhaps attached to an Artillery unit). On 15 Aug 1942 he was transferred to the 5th Anti Aircraft Battery, with the likelihood that he was required to revert to Private. From 25 - 30 Aug 1943 he moved briefly to Geraldton before rejoining his unit.

On 1 Jul 1943he had qualified for Proficiency Pay and was appointed Lance Bombardier. Albert was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital on 3 Apr 1944 with Dermatitis and was released to LMCH on 20 April, with a return to his unit on 4 May 1944. Albert reverted to Gunner on 7 Sep 1944 on transfer to 1st Australian Base Depot - Personnel 6.407. in New South Wales. On 21 Nov 1944 he was transferred to 1st Australian Army Service Corps Training Battalion at Bonegilla in Victoria. On 9 Dec 1944 he was sent to undertake a Driving and Maintenance course for wheeled vehicles at the 3rd Australian Motor Transport Training Depot6.281. Course completed he returned to 1st Australian Army Service Corps Training Battalion on 10 Feb 1945.

On 27 Mar 1945 he was sent to Canunga's Jungle Warfare 2nd Australian Reinforcement Training Battalion (Jungle Warfare) , where on 23 Apr 1945 he was accidentally injured with injury to his left hand. On 30 Apr 1945 he was admitted to the 22nd Australian Camp Hospital and the next day he was transferred to the 128th Australian General Hospital. Albert was released from hospital on 26 Jun 1945 to the 102nd Australian Convalescent Depot. On 14 Aug 1945 he rejoined his unit at Canungra, remaining with them until 18 Nov 1945 when he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot's Discharge Section, with his discharge occurring on 26 Nov 1945.

During 1943 Albert had married Gwendoline Sarah Smith, whose address in October 1943 was 28 Locke street Mosman Park, and in September 1944 Gwen had moved to 36 Sewell street, East Fremantle.
