Pre War

At time of enlistment he had 4 children under the age of 16 years.

War Service

On 29 Jul 1941 he was posted to the 3rd Training Battalion at Northam, and on 19 Aug 1941 this was changed to the 4th Training Battalion. Training completed, he was granted pre-embarkation leave from 16 - 22 Oct 1941. On 7 Nov 1941 he embarked on HMT XXXX as part of Convoy US 13, and on 24 Nov 1941 he disembarked in the Middle East. The same day he was posted to the AIF (ME) Movement and Transportation Guard.

On 14 Feb 1942 he embarked in Egypt for Colombo, and on 28 Mar 1942 he was transhipped to the SS Orcades for the voyage to Adelaide, disembarking there on 15 Mar 1942. On 1 Apr 1942 he was Graded A/Group III Clerk, with that status confirmed 3 months later on 1 Jul 1942 in Queensland. In the meantime he had been granted leave from 28 May to 22 Jun 1942.


On 8 Aug 1943 he again returned to WA on leave, before returning to his unit on 17 Sep 1943, in Queensland. On 2 Mar 1944 he left his unit for the Claremont Leave and Transit Depot where on 14 Mar 1944 he was approved for discharge on the basis of working in an Essential Service (bricks).
