Pre War
War Service
While Albert enlisted in the CMF on 26 Aug 1940, he was not called up for full time duty with 3rd Field Artillery Brigade until 29 Jun 1941 while at Narrogin. Albert, due to his property requiring his attention from time to time, enjoyed frequent periods of leave or leave without pay.
On 30 Jan 1942 he was promoted Acting Bombardier, and from 2 - 6 Jun 1942 he was in need of medical assistance from 38th Australian Camp Hospital at Northam. On 19 June he was again admitted to the camp hospital this time until 22 Jun 1942. Albert reverted to Lance Bombardier on 5 Jan 1943 before he attended a Hygiene Course from 27 Feb 1943 until 30 Mar 1943 after which he rejoined his unit the 12th Artillery Training Battery. He then joined the 14th Australian Special Group from 29 April until 24 May 1943 when he joined the 13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion From 26 July until 30 Aug 1943 he attended the No 24 Cooking & Catering Course at the 13th AITB before rejoining the 12th Artillery training Battery on 30 Aug 1943.
On 3 Nov 1943 he was transferred tot he Staff of the 4th Australian Signals Training Unit for a few days before being transferred again to the staff of HQ Melville Camp on 8 Nov 1943. On 10 Jan 1944 he was considered to be proficient and received a small pay rise, but on 16 Feb 1944 he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot and on 31 May 1944 he was discharged.
