Pre War
On 11 Oct 1916 Alfred married Hilda Maude Buckingham (1893 - 1953) in St Mary in the Valley Church, Kelmscott. Hilda died on 15 Jan 1953. They had five children including: Elsia May Martin (1918 - 1993); Alfred Henry Martin (1923 - 1993); and Colin Stanley martin (1933 - 1993).

War Service
On 19 Apr 1942 at Armadale, Alfred enlisted in the Volunteer defence Corps and was posted to the 3rd (Swan) VDC Battalion. On 28 Feb 1943 he was transferred tot he 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion and his service terminated on 24 Jan 1944.
