Alice was active in the Society for Growing Native Plants after her first trip, with Jack, across the Nullabor, and fell in love with Eremophilas (Desert Emu Bush).

After Jack died, Alice demolished her house and had a prefabricated house placed in her garden.  During this time, Alice lived with George and Wendy Beumer for 3 months until she could move into her new home.  She read stories and told stories, found recipes as well as having conversations about Christian ideas and church life.  Alice was an eccentric, wise and loving person with a very strong faith in Christ.
