Pre War

War Service

Beryl enlisted in the AIF Nursing as a Lieutenant (AANS) on 23 Jul 1945 and was alloted to Light Duties with the 110th Australian Base Hospital in Perth. On 9 Apr 1946 she was posted to the 71st Austalian Camp Hospital, before returning to the 110th Base Hospital on 4 Dec 1946.


On 28 May 1947 Beryl was taken on strength by the 115th Australian General Hospital at Heidelberg, Victoria. On arrival she was allocated to to nurse patients with ww1 and ww2 service. Beryl's service with the AIF was terminated on 30 Jun 1947 and she was transferred to the Interim Army on 1 Jul 1947. On 29 Dec 1947 she was transferred to the AANS Reinforcements, based at Concord, New South Wales and held on their strength pending her movement to Kure in Japan to serve with the British Commonwealth Occupying Force (B.C.O.F).


On 16 Feb 1948, in Sydney, Beryl boarded MV Merkur which sailed for Japan, disembarking on 10 Mar 1948. On arrival she was allocated to the 130th Australian General Hospital. Beryl arrived back in Australia from Japan on 12 Apr 1949 and was discharged on 24 May 1949.

Post War

On 15 Mar 1950 Beryl's address is 69 Giblin street, Lenah Valley, Tasmania as she had married Vernon Charles Wright (1922 - 1953) and they had 2 children, Geoff and Vern. On 16 Feb 1957 Beryl re-married, to Ralph George Tonkin (1926 - ), and they had two sons - Allen Ralph (7 May 1958 - ) and Anthony John (11 Jun 1960 - ) In 1958 Ralph is described in the electoral roll as a stationahand at Red Knob via MOrgans, and in 1963 as Shire Clerk at Mt Magnet

Notes

Burial record at Northam lists four children - Geoff, Vern, Allen and Tony. Also shows birth date as 1932 (?)
