Charles enlisted on 5 Jan 1942 and was sent to the 13th Training Battalion at Northam. On 13 Mar 1942 Charles was found guilty of having been AWOL from midnight 8 March to 11:00am 11 Mar 1942. His fine was 10/- ($1), and he forfeited 2 days pay (12/- or $1.20) On 16 Mar 1942 he was transferred to the Recruit Training Battalion from where he was detached to Special Guard Duties. Following exactly 9 months service, Charles was discharged on 5 Oct 1942.

Post War

During 1949 Charles married Clare Elizabeth Lines in the local area.

Electoral Roll entries: 1943 at Ye Olde Narrogin Inn, Armadale, timber faller; 1954 - 1977 at 17 John street, Armadale, timber worker; 1980 at 36 Jannali way, Armadale, retired.
