Pre War
War Service
Entered Blackboy Hill camp on 24 Aug 1915, and on 16 Oct 1915 he was allocated to the 12th reinforcement draft for the 16th Battalion, and travelled with them to Egypt.
On 15 Jan 1916 David was admitted to the 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital in Abbassia, and was discharged to duty with the Overseas Base at Ghezireh on 17 Mar 1916. Ineffective service was 62 days. Six days later he was transferred to Zeitoun, and on 2 Apr 1916 he was taken on strength by the 16th Battalion at Serapeum.
The battalion proceeded to join the B.E.F. from Alexandria on 1 Jun 1916, arriving in Marseilles aboard HMT Canada on 9 Jun 1916.
On 6 Aug 1916 the men from the 16th Battalion were on carrying duties for the 6th, 7th and 12th Brigades who were manning the front lines near Poziéres between the attack on German lines, there and at Mouquet Farm.
