Pre War

At enlistment she stated that she had 5½ years experience in office, shop and store work with Freecorns Ltd. She was at the time Manageress of a Branch store, in charge of all ordering, stock and staff. Education wise, she he had passed years VII and VIII. On enlistment she provided copies of six personal references.

War Service

Doreen enlisted at the No. 4 Recruiting Centre in Perth and following testing (65% for Trade test of Storekeeper) was initially posted to the No. 4 R.D. Training Centre as a Storekeeper for basic training. A month later she was posted to No.4 SFTS Geraldton where on 23 Aug 1942 she was found guilty of 'Conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline in that she failed to leave her kit in proper lay out as instructed. For this heinous crime she received 7 days Confined to Barracks. On 29 Sep 1942 she remustered as an Equipment Assistant, and was promoted Temporary Corporal on 1 Apr 1944.

On 23 May 1944 she transferred south to the No 5 Personnel Depot for processing of her requested discharge. Doreen was discharged from the WAAAF on 24 May 1944 on compassionate grounds. Her religion was altered to Roman Catholic following her marriage to Leonard Rotchford Trainor who was serving in the RAAF, based in Geraldton.
