Pre War

During 1937 Douglas had married Evyline May Cameron (1919 - 2001) in the Canning district. Evyline died in Bayswater on 7 Feb 2001. Electoral Roll entries: 1937 at Homestead road, Gosnells, labourer; 1943 at 184 Bagot road, Subiaco, soldier.

War Service

Douglas was enlisted in the Militia (CMF0 on 18 Feb 1942 and was posted to the 55th Anti Aircraft Battery RAE. On 16 Mar 1942 he was called up for full time duty and was transferred to the 2nd AIF on 21 Jul 1942 with a new No of WX27118. On 31 Oct 1942 he was appointed Lance Corporal, then on 16 Dec 1942 he was promoted Acting Corporal, and on 8 Apr 1943 to Acting Sergeant, with the rank of Sergeant confirmed on 13 Aug 1943. He was sent to headquarters to front a Selection Board on 28 Oct 1943.


Doug participated in the 104A Search Light Training Course from 19 Nov 1943 until 13 Jan 1944, after which he was detached to the 66th Searchlight Battery (Mixed) from 30 Jan - 19 Feb 1944
