During 1911 Emanuel married Edith Serls (1888 - 1973) locally. Edith died on 14 Feb 1973 in Armadale, aged 85. They had 3 children: Ernest Emanuel Mills (1916 - 2006); Douglas Joseph (Doug) Mills (1921 - 2001); and Doris Edith Mills (1927 - 2015).
