George enlisted in the 2nd AIF at Claremont on 16 Jul 1940, and three days later he was sent to the Naval Base Training Depot. Following basic training, on 23 Sep 1940 he was transferred to the '''2/3rd Australian Machine Gun Battalion''' at Northam, and on 29 Oct 1940 they entrainred for South Australia. George enlisted in the 2nd AIF at Claremont on 16 Jul 1940, and three days later he was sent to the Naval Base Training Depot. Following basic training, on 23 Sep 1940 he was transferred to the 2/3rd Australian Machine Gun Battalion at Northam, and on 29 Oct 1940 they entrainred for South Australia. MNothing untoward took place during his training there withthe exception of a 1 day visit to the Woodside Camp Hospital on 12 Mar 1941. On 25 Mar 1941 he was granted pre-embarkation leave back in Western Australia.
