Mobilised on 30 Jul 1940, he was under training at the Melville Training Depot when he resigned on 6 Sep 1940 in order to join the RAAF. Interestingly his enlistment date for the RAAF is nearly 1 year later, 12 Aug 1941.
During 1943 in Melbourne Gordon married Lois Cazna Bruce (1922 - 1985). Son Raymond Bruce Johnson born 9 Dec 1946, d 2004. One other child.
