At 22.31 hours on 11 Apr, 1942, the unescorted Ulysses enroute from Sydney to Liverpool with cargo, was hit in the stern by one stern torpedo from U-160 45 miles south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and in the engine room by a torpedo at 22.53 hours.
