Remarks
Originally constructed for the New York to London route, she made 137 trans Atlantic voyages before she became a military transport (HMT 158).
It would appear that during her time as a troopship, she operated primarily in the Mediterranean. Twice she was torpedoed by U Boats with out success. However, On January 30th, 1918, MINNETONKA, on a voyage from Port Said to Marseille with a cargo of mails, was sunk by the German submarine U-64 (Robert Moraht), 40 miles ENE of Malta. She was not carrying troops at the time, but four crew members were lost.
