Pre War

War Service

Enlisted in the CMF on 6 Mar 1941, before being called up for full time service on 11 Nov 1941 at the Melville camp. On 16 Dec 1941 he was appointed Lance Corporal and classified as a Technical Storeman Grade TG III. On 21 Apr 1942 he was promoted Corporal, and on 8 Jan 1943 to Lance Sergeant. On 12 Feb 1943 he entrained for Adelaide and then relocated to Darwin with the 11th Battalion on 30 Feb 1943.

On 16 Mar 1943 Heber was promoted to Acting Sergeant, with his rank confirmed on 25 Apr 1943. On 12 Sep 1943 he was granted compassionate leave and Leave without pay in WA, rejoining his unit on 4 Nov 1943.

On 25 Nov 1944 he embarked on the USAT Jane Adams in Darwin for Jacquinot Bay in New Guinea, returning to Australia on the HMAT Tarooma from Jacquinot Bay on 125 Apr 1945 to Brisbane on leave, arriving on 21 Apr 1945.
