Herbert was born in 1894 and registered at Kelmscott. His father was Samuel Salter Jnr. and his mother was Ellen Elizabeth Salter (nee Gilmore Best).
Although Herbert has his name on the headstone for Ellen Salter, this is the first Ellen Salter (Ellen Emma Buckingham, Samuel's first wife who died in 1878) not Herbert's mother Ellen Elizabeth Salter who was Samuel's second wife. The burial arrangements can be confusing for non-family members, but in simple terms, Herbert is buried with his father's first wife Ellen Emma Buckingham, not his mother Ellen Elizabeth Gilmore Best.
