Pre War
War Service
Originally a part of the 23rd reinforcement draft for the 16th Battalion, he was reallocated to the 22nd draft. On arrival in Devonport, England he was admitted briefly to the Devonport Military Hospital before being posted to the 4th Training Battalion in Codford.
Having completed his training, he proceeded overseas to France from Folkestone on the HMT Invicta on 28 Feb 1917. On 3 Mar 1917 in Étaples he again required hospitalisation for influenza (26th General Hospital 3 - 7 Mar 1917), followed by measles (24th General Hospital 26 Mar to 6 Apr 1917).
On discharge from hospital he was transferred to the 32nd Battalion, who on 15 Apr 1917 were in Grevillers near Bapaume preparing to join the line between Bancourt and Haplincourt.
In Feb 1918 a case of scabies sees him again needing medical attention for a fortnight, as does his second case of influenza in Dec 1918.
Rejoining his battalion in Feb 1919 he enjoyed leave in England from 9 - 23 Feb 1919 before in May 1919 finally packing his bags to leave France and began the journey home.
Discharged 5 Military District 15 Aug 1919.
Post War
In 1923 married Ethel May Stewart in Perth. Ethel May died on 13 Jan 1977 at 71 Mary street, now known as Hyde Park. Electoral Roll entries - 1916 a farmhand at Bulbarra via Koogan; 1925 - 1946 at 71 Mary street, North Perth a tramway employee.
