No. 14 AHU RAF.jpg

Brief History

Towards the end of WW2 aircrew were completing training faster than they were needed by operational units and they were posted to Aircrew Holding Units against the day that they were either needed or could be released from their service. Information on these units is difficult to find as the records have no yet been digitised by the British National Archives.

It appears that No. 14 Aircrew Holding Unit RAF was established at Millom in June 1945, was was disbanded in December 1945. Millom is a town and civil parish on the north shore of the estuary of the River Duddon in southwest Cumbria, historically part of Cumberland, England. It is situated just outside the Lake District National Park, about 10 kilometers north of Barrow-in-Furness and 43 kilometers south of Whitehaven.
