Initial enlistment was with the AIF from 17 Dec 1941 until 19 Jun 1942. After his discharge from the 2nd AIF, he enlisted on 28 Jul 1942 with the 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion, Volunteer Defence Corps.

Post War

During 1947 Patrick married Norma Hilda Stonehouse. Norma died on 15 Apr 2011 in Withers aged 92.
