Pre War

War Service

Registered for Mobilization 10 Apr 1942 and declared Reserved Occupation. Called up 17 Sep 1943 for full time duty, and on 24 Sep 1943 entered the Royal Australian Engineers Training Depot at Kapooka. Philbert was charged on 29 Feb 1944 with having used insubordinate language to a superior officer for which he was fined £1 and given 7 days Confined to Barracks. On 10 Mar 1944 he was transferred to the 5th AARD, but on 4 Apr 1944 the 114th Australian Convalescent Depot reclassified Philbert as Class B. On 14 Apr 1944 he marched out to the 13th Australian Personnel Staging Camp for evaluation, and from there referred to the Cape River Meat Works.

On 25 Jun 1944 he was evacuated to the 2/14th AGH, and from there sent on to the 112th Australian Military Hospital (Brisbane) who released him to duty with the Meat Works on 5 Jul 1944. On 11 May 1945 he was admitted to the 2/14th Australian General Hospital with Dengue Fever. Released to his unit on 27 May 1945, but classified B2 for health.
