During 1921 Philip was a student at the Hopelands Primary School. He had also attended the Serpentine school. During 1935 Philip had married Hilda May Vivian in Perth. He remarried during 1941 to Hilda Martha Jane Mead (1909 - 1990) Hilda died on 28 Jan 1990 in Maylands. For a time in 1936 Philip was a casual labourer employed by the Western Australian Government Railways at Dwellingup Mills.
