During January 1924 the ''Port Lyttelton'' ran aground on a sand bar at the mouth of the Tamar River, Tasmania. Made one trip as HMNZT 71 departing New Zealand in December 1916, and then in June 1918 departed Sydney on a 'Single Charter' carryng 104 AIF personnel
