War Service

On arrival in England was posted to the 4th Training Battalion at Codford to prepare for service in the trenches. Here it was discovered that he had marked loss of hearing, and on 9 Mar 1917 he was transferred to the No 2 Command Depot at Weymouth. On 21 Apr 1917 he moves to the No 3 camp at Parkhouse, and from 23 Jun 1917 he was detached for duty with the Australian Army Medical Corps at Parkhouse.

In January 1918 he is again in Weymouth, where on 23 Apr 1918 he is transferred to the Australian Army Service Corps. A Medical Board held on 16 Jul 1918 found Sidney to be permanently unfit for general service but fit for Home Service. From 29 Nov 1918 until 3 Dec 1918 he was hospitalised with a minor illness. On 28 Jan 1919 he proceeded to France where he joined the 5th Depot of Supply. From 9 - 14 Feb 1919 he was ill in hospital.

On 19 May 1919 he embarked in Le Havre for Southampton. On his arrival he was sent to Sutton Veny. Transferred again on 15 Jun 1919, this time to Parkhouse where he was soon processed for return to Australia.

Discharged at 5th Military District on 8 Dec 1919.
