Later that day he was sent to the No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF to undertke some basic drill training before being posted on 1 Jan 1943 to No. 10 Stores Depot RAAF in Maylands. Stewart's next posting took place on 11 May 1943 when he joined No. 85 Squadron RAAF.
