Pre War

Attended the Whitakers Mill Government School from 1938 until 1940. Sydney had been a Volunteer Rating with the Naval Auxilary Patrol prior to his enlistment in the RAAF. He was working as an Assistant Cinema Projectionist for Metro Golwyn Mayer Co. Ltd.

War Service

Sydney enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre in Perth on 12 Feb 1944, mustered as Air crew V. Later the same day he entered No. 5 Initial Training School RAAF at Clontarf. Early training completed he was appointed Leading Aircraftman on 20 May 1944, before he was posted on 21 Jun 1944 to No. 1 Wireless Air Gunners School RAAF at Ballarat in Victoria. Following the completion of his training with them he was posted on 25 Aug 1944 to No. 1 Personnel Depot RAAF at the MCG in Melbourne.


On 15 Sep 1944 Sydney was remustered as a Trainee Tecnical and so reverted in rank to Aircraftman. On 25 Sep 1944 Sydney had returned to Perth's No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF for prepatory training before returning on 12 Jan 1945 to No. 1 School of Technical Training RAAF in Melbourne to participate in the No. 143 Electricians courses (21 Jan 1945 - 9 Jun 1945 (MTC)) and (11 Jun 1945 to 10 Sep 1945 (IST)), having been remustered Electrician trade group II on 11 Sep 1945.


Sydney was posted to No. 4 Central Recovery Depot RAAF at Maylands on 15 Oct 1945, where he was appointed Leading Aircraftman on 11 Dec 1945. On 23 Apr 1946 his posting changed to No. 10 Stores Depot RAAF. Finally on 3 Sep 1946 Sydney was posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF to prepare for his discharge which took place on on 9 Sep 1946.

Post War

During 1947 Sydney married Stella Ruth Brown in Perth.
