Pre War

War Service

After training at the Claremont and Rockingham camps, he travelled with the 10th Light Horse Regiment to Egypt, and then on 16 May 1915 with them on board the SS Lutzow to Gallipoli where on 21 May they were transhipped to two destroyers that landed them in the late afternoon with only one casualty.

On 2 Jul 1915 Tom was transferred to the 1st Australian Stationary Hospital on Mudros with measles. Recovered, he embarked for Gallipoli again on 16 Jul 1915.

On 7 Aug 1915 the 10th LHR provided the 3rd and 4th attack waves of the attack on Turkish positions at 'The Neck' resulting in 80 KIA and 58 wounded, Thomas one of the later, sustaining gunshot wounds to his left thigh and leg

Evacuated to the Hospital ship HMHS Delta where he died on 10 Aug 1915. Buried at sea between Mudros and Alexandria.

Tom's mother received a War Pension of £2 per fortnight from 11 Oct 1915, along with £55/4/- pay owed to Tom up till his death.

Notes

When Military authorities enquire of Tom's father's in order to establish who should receive his medals, his mother in January 1921 replies that she has not heard or seen anything of him for the past 12 years.
