War Service

An early enlistment, Thomas, as a result of his prior experience was posted to instructional staff at Blackboy Hill and Claremont camps, as well as serving on Rottnest as a guard. At some point in his service he also went to Sydney, before returning to Blackboy Hill where he fell ill, and died on 4 Mar 1917.

"Thomas Woodward was 15 years in the British Army, and held the rank of Sergeant when he volunteered for the Expeditionary Force. He was retained as instructor in the West, and is at present Staff Sergeant-Major.[1]
